Halal food and prayer in Georgia: what we have checked
Georgia has no official register of halal certification. This page lists the mosques and restaurants we have been able to check from published sources, states the evidence for each one, and says plainly where we found nothing. Our team has not yet visited these places.

How to read this page
For each place we say which kind of evidence we have: a listing in Zabihah, an independent halal directory; the restaurant’s own statement; or, for a mosque, the page of Georgia’s national tourism board.
None of this is a certificate, and we have not yet been to these restaurants ourselves. Before your departure we confirm the points that matter for your dates and tell you what was confirmed.
Mosques
| Mosque | What is confirmed | Still to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Juma MosqueBotanical Street, Abanotubani, old Tbilisi | What is confirmedThe national tourism board’s page states that Friday and Eid prayers are held here. | Still to confirmThat page gives neither the time of the Friday prayer nor the women’s prayer area. We ask the mosque before your departure. |
| Orta Jame (Batumi Mosque)Kutaisi Street, Batumi | What is confirmedThe mosque of central Batumi, built in 1866. Friday prayers are held here. It is small and fills beyond its capacity on Fridays, when many worshippers pray in the streets around it. | Still to confirmThe women’s prayer area. On a Friday, plan to arrive early. |
We found no mosque in Gudauri, Bakuriani, Borjomi or Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). There, prayers are said in your room or at a stop on the road: prayer mats travel in the vehicle, we stop at prayer times, and your itinerary shows the prayer times for each day.
The facilities page of Tbilisi International Airport does not mention a prayer room. We ask the airport before your departure and tell you the answer.

| Spice Garden GudauriGudauri; the address is not given on the restaurant’s site | EvidenceA branch listed on the restaurant’s own site, which describes its food as “100% halal”. The restaurant’s own description only. The opening months are not stated, so we confirm whether it is open in your month. |
These places come from a third-party halal guide or from the restaurant’s own description, as stated for each one; our team has not yet visited them.
In the mountains and on the road
In Tbilisi and Batumi there are restaurants listed as halal; in the mountains the choice is very small. In Gudauri, Bakuriani, Borjomi and Stepantsminda, and on the motorway section near Kutaisi, we have not been able to confirm a halal restaurant, apart from the Gudauri branch that describes itself as halal.
Mountain meals are therefore arranged in advance and confirmed to you before departure. When the Gudauri restaurant is open, lunch is reserved there; when it is closed, we order a packed halal lunch from Tbilisi. Dinner at a mountain hotel is arranged with the hotel beforehand, and we tell you what the hotel has confirmed.
Georgian cooking uses pork widely, including in some khinkali dumplings, so please ask before ordering outside the restaurants named here.
Friday prayer
Friday prayers are held at Juma Mosque in old Tbilisi and at Orta Jame in Batumi. If you wish to pray the Friday prayer at the mosque, tell us when you book: we set the order of the days so that Friday falls in Tbilisi or in Batumi, wherever your flights allow.
No wine in the itinerary
No wine tasting and no winery visit is scheduled on our itineraries for guests from the Gulf.
What we confirm before you travel
Before your departure we confirm the points we could not verify from published sources:
- The time of the Friday prayer and the women’s prayer area at Juma Mosque.
- Whether the Gudauri restaurant is open in your month.
- Whether Tbilisi airport has a prayer room.
- The qibla direction and a bidet sprayer in your hotel room.
